Frequently Asked Questions

You must be disabled and unable to work according to a disability definition used by the Social Security Administration to satisfy the medical criteria for disability benefits through SSDI and SSI. SSDI applicants also must have worked long enough at jobs or self-employment and paid Social Security taxes on their earnings. SSI applicants must have little or no income and limited resources.

Immediately contact Clauson Disability Advocacy as soon as you receive notice of the denial of benefits. You have the right to appeal adverse decisions. Your time to request an appeal is limited, so do not delay contacting us for a free claim review and evaluation.

Depending on the type of disability, how long it takes for your doctors to respond to requests from Social Security for medical records, and other factors, it generally takes anywhere from six to eight months to be notified of a decision on your initial application. Our disability representatives work closely with your medical providers to avoid unnecessary delays in responding to requests for supporting documentation.

Representation during the application process is not required, but studies show that claimants with representation have a greater chance of a successful outcome than those who do not. Representatives at Clauson Advocacy review applications for mistakes and omissions that delay the review process or lead to a denial of benefits. We work closely with Social Security and your medical providers to ensure an efficient exchange of information to expedite the review process.

Representatives at Clauson Advocacy do not charge a fee unless and until you win your claim for Social Security Disability benefits. We charge a percentage of the back benefits awarded when the claim is approved. The fee agreement and amount we charge must be reviewed and approved by the Social Security Administration.

If a chronic illness or long-term injury prevents you from working, you could be eligible for SSDI or SSI benefits.
